Green marine technology

A dynamic mix of boat building/engineering /maintenance / making/ mending workshops with pioneering centre for renewable energy  - this unique location offers potential for solar/ tidal/wind …

There is  a great deal of momentum-  moving towards cleaner and more sustainable practices.

Fully utilising the powerful tidal energy source of the river at this location  - Artist and designer Charlie Murphy is researching & developing concepts for  using tidal water as an inspiring counterbalance lifting mechanism- to lift & move vessels/ & cargo into the yard & dock ….( vessels up to 20m – max size yard can accomodate  )

Appropriating and updating successful water counterbalance & hydraulic ram systems historically used to lift cargo & vessels for quarries, canals and rivers – this  net zero design will provide a uniquely versatile  net- zero system to future proof lifting provision-     an inspiring landmark feature of green engineering -and popular visitor attraction

Ecology

Reed and samphire beds will provide natural habitats for local waterfowl birdlife while also cleaning the water to facilitate open water bathing and swimming

It is vitally important to retain our established mature trees. They are much valued features of the riverfront and provide huge ecological benefits- supporting a vast array of important species. Trees benefit health. The canopies of these trees act as a physical filter, trapping dust and absorbing pollutants. Each individual tree removes up to 1.7 kilos every year. They also provide shade from solar radiation and reduce noise.Research shows that within minutes of being surrounded by trees and green space, your blood pressure drops, your heart rate slows and your stress levels come down.
